Beyond the wealth of artistic treasures on display in Santa Fe’s world-class museums, there’s also a world of history and New Mexican culture close at hand. The [blog_link url="http://www.nmhistorymuseum.org/" text="New Mexico History Museum's" date="2016-05-17"]  extensive collection is housed in a state-of-the-art building adjacent to the 400-plus-year-old Palace of the Governors. Dad can step in either and emerge hours later.

There's a great museum exhibit at the New Mexico History Museum where Dad can shift gears and experience the world of "low 'n slow". He may want to ride into the creative reimaginings of American steel as captured in photographs, hubcaps, hood ornaments, car show banners and, yes, actual cars. [blog_link url="http://www.nmhistorymuseum.org/news.php?id=442" text="Lowriders, Hoppers, and Hot Rods: Car Culture of Northern New Mexico " date="2016-05-17"] focuses on mobile works of art and their makers—home-grown Nuevomexicanos who customize, detail, paint and upholster these favorite symbols of Hispanic culture. Photo Curator Daniel Kosharek has assembled an extensive collection of images by Don Usner, Annie Sahlin, Jack Parsons, Sam Adams, Norman Mauskopf, Dottie Lopez, Gabriela Campos, Meridel Rubinstein and others. In addition, Dad will see a chromed and touchable engine, miniature-scale model-car collections, trophies, memorabilia and other ephemera.

The [blog_link url="http://www.bataanmuseum.com/" text="New Mexico National Guard Military Museum" date="2016-05-17"] offers the opportunity for your history buff Dad to delve deeper into the Land of Enchantment’s past. Learn more about how storied figures like Kit Carson fought on the Union side in the Civil War era and New Mexicans who served with Teddy Roosevelt’s Roughriders; how World War Two’s Pacific Theater intelligence relied on the Navajo Code Talkers’ unique skills, and the notorious Bataan Death March which claimed many of our native sons. New Mexico boasts one of the nation’s largest per capita veteran populations, with their experiences intriguingly represented at this fascinating museum.

Craft Beers and Spirits In The City Different

If Dad loves craft beer, you’ll take comfort in knowing that Santa Fe is a goldmine of craft beer brewpubs! Check out local favorite, [blog_link url="http://bluecorncafe.com/" text="Blue Corn Brewery" date="2016-05-17"]. To get a sampling of their many heavenly hops, order beer flights including everything from Atomic Blonde Lager to the Roadrunner IPA and Gold Medal Oatmeal Stout. Blue Corn recently medaled at the Great American Beer Festival, so this place is more than legit. And if Dad wants a plate of bona fide Santa Fe “New Mexican” food, their stacked enchiladas and braised pork stew will easily win his heart.

Want a little sweeter? How about [blog_link url="http://www.nmcider.com/" text="New Mexico Hard Cider" date="2016-05-17"]. It is New Mexico's first hard cider taproom. They have teamed up with a few orchards around the state to provide quality hard cider that is pressed from New Mexico apples.

Don’t forget about Santa Fe’s other microbrew pubs! Other local microbrews Dad might be interested in are [blog_link url="http://duelbrewing.com/" text="Duel Brewing" date="2016-05-17"] , [blog_link url="http://draft-station.com/" text="Draft Station" date="2016-05-17"] , [blog_link url="http://secondstreetbrewery.com/" text="Second Street Brewery" date="2016-05-17"] , [blog_link url="http://fireandhopsgastropub.com/" text="Fire and Hops" date="2016-05-17"] , [blog_link url="https://santafebrewing.com/" text="Santa Fe Brewing Company" date="2016-05-17"] , and the new [blog_link url="https://www.facebook.com/Chililinebrewery/" text="Chili Line Brewing" date="2016-05-17"] .

Raise Dad’s spirits even further at [blog_link url="https://santafespirits.com/" text="Santa Fe Spirits" date="2016-05-17"] . These folks distill a dizzying array of small-batch spirits ranging from single-malt whiskey to gin and vodka to brandy. The master distiller gives [blog_link url="https://santafespirits.com/tours-tastings" text="guided tours" date="2016-05-17"] of the entire distillery, and samples of various cocktail concoctions in the tasting room.

Does Dad Love The Great Outdoors?

While museum-going is a must in Santa Fe, being outdoors may be equally tempting for the “World’s Greatest Dad”. Suggest a round of golf at the [blog_link url="http://www.linksdesantafe.com/home" text="Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe" date="2016-05-17"] , a city course surrounded on all sides by mountain ranges. With 320-plus days of sun, golfing is year-round activity in Santa Fe. The Baxter Spann course is a par three known as “The Great 28.” And those 18 holes can be followed by a brew and the view at the [blog_link url="http://www.linksdesantafe.com/grill" text="Links Bar and Grill" date="2016-05-17"].
