A City Different New Year's Eve on the Santa Fe PlazaDecember 31, 2017 -- 9:00PM - 12:15AM
Round up your family, friends and visitors to welcome the New Year to Santa Fe on Sunday, December 31, 2017. Be part of the fun as the City Different says Adios to 2017 at the Third Annual New Year's Eve on the Santa Fe Plaza.
The festivities begin at 9:00 p.m. with the Plaza warmed by stationary heaters and cozy piñon bonfires scenting the night air with an unmistakably comforting New Mexican fragrance.
Local music heroes Sol Fire, Alex Maryol and Fun Adixx will fill the Bandstand with upbeat and cheerful sounds to keep the crowd rocking and the night alive. In addition, come hear slam poetry by Santa Fe poets during the music breaks.
The Kiwanis Club of Santa Fe will provide hot chocolate and biscochitos, along with a memorial banner for all to write down their hopes and dreams for a Prospero Año Nuevo.
At 11:45 p.m., Mayor Javier Gonzales and city officials will address the crowd and begin the countdown to a peaceful and prosperous new year. In recognition of Santa Fe’s signature status as The City Different, nothing will drop. When the traditional countdown ends, a new tin Zia symbol crafted by a traditional Spanish colonial artisan, will instead be raised at the stroke of midnight. As the night sky overhead is lit by festive fireworks, the age-old songs, Auld Lang Syne and Las Mañanitas, will be sung in a spirit of unity to say “Bienvenidos 2018ǃ"
Please dress warmly and bundle up the kids for this uplifting and family-friendly tradition in America's oldest capital city. See YOU on the Plaza on Sunday, December 31st.
