Golf Courses

Whether you're a pro seeking a challenging course or just starting to learn the sport, you'll find great places to play golf in the Santa Fe area. The courses often incorporate natural elements of the high desert--sandstone ridges, dramatic rock, deep arroyos and pinon, juniper and other native trees. The majestic mountain vistas that surround you can only inspire your game.

Choose from municipal and privately owned courses that are open to the public. Most golf courses offer individual and group lessons as well as pro shops and restaurants. Golfers appreciate playing in this high desert oasis, where an average of 300 sunny days a year provides ideal conditions.

Sandia Park, NM 87407
(505) 281-6000
This 18 hole privately owned public golf course designed by award-winning architect, Ken Dye, with an additional 9 holes currently under construction. The course is situated on the east side of the Sandia Mountains, at elevations ranging from 6,500 to 7,000 feet, surrounded by the mountainous terrain and vegetation of the New Mexican high desert. The layout of the course features landing areas and greens separated by arroyos, native vegetation, and rock outcroppings. Each hole in the upscale course has five sets of tees allowing play from 5,702 to 7,562 yards, and many of the holes play downhill through ponderosa, piņon and juniper.

Pueblo de Cochiti Golf Course

5200 Cochiti Hwy
Cochiti Lake, NM
(505) 465-2239
This course sits at the foothills of the Jemez Mountains and is probably one of the most scenic courses in the Southwest. It is a spectacular high desert design that is carved delicately into the natural landscape and surrounded by cedars, piņons and ponderosa pines. No structures are built on the course and no homes or busy roads are nearby. Elk are seen in the wintertime coming down from upper elevations to feed on the greens. The front nine is walkable, but the back nine is hilly and makes for a workout, especially at the course's 6,000-foot elevation. Thanks to the elevation, however, it is possible to reach hole #17, a 503-yard, par 5, in two with a mid-iron. The downhill putts can be treacherous on the fast, undulating greens.
