Kathamann: Physical
Fri, Mar 3, 2017 thru Sun, Mar 26, 2017
onetime 11:59 PM - 11:59 PM
Location: Axle Contemporary Mobile Gallery

In Physical, Kathamann's second installation in the Axle Contemporary mobile gallery, she has turned to a new and unlikely set of materials: plastic water bottles and Airplus shipping pillows. She has drawn human figures from life on these translucent materials and hangs them in a shimmering and dense cascade. What are customarily two-dimensional drawings now are wrapped and stretched into three, causing the whole sculpture to dance and move. Free, 505-670-5854, axleart.com.

Propagation is an interactive installation using textiles, plastics, and wood. Forms are abstracted from diverse biological structures and create a diverse “ecosystem” on the interior of the mobile gallery space. The structures that make up the piece will house “spores”—small pins or clips in a number of different designs—for people who enter the exhibition space to place on their bodies and take with them when they leave. In this way, the installation expands to include wherever the people who visit take these “spores.” Free, 505-670-5854, axleart.com. visit our website
