Pueblo Moccasin Making

Location: Institute of American Indian Arts

This course will teach you the basic fundamentals of Pueblo moccasin making using the “outside stitch technique. Participants will learn how to measure and create their own foot pattern, how to shape the sole, and cut the leather, as well as how to stitch the moccasin from start to finish. $375.

Materials Needed: Leather for soles and leather for the moccasins (can be purchased by participant on the first day during a class outing).

For eight sessions, Thursday's, beginning 3/23, 3/30, 4/6, 4/20, 4/27, 5/4, 5/11, & 5/18. (No class 4/13)

Pueblo Belt Weaving

Location: Institute of American Indian Arts: Hogan

This course will teach you the basic fundamentals of belt weaving, including yarn choices, spinning the yarn, placing the spun yarn onto a loom, as well as how to weave a basic design. $350 plus a materials fee of $45 (includes a spindle & three spools of yarn).

Machine Sewing for the Absolute Beginner

Location: Institute of American Indian Arts

In this course you will learn about machine sewing, fabric and stitch choices, how to thread a sewing machine, as well as basic stitches which will lead to the construction of an apron and a set of potholders. Participants are encouraged to bring their sewing machine so that they can learn how to use it more efficiently. This course is great for beginners or those that need a refresher on sewing. $200.
