The Symphony calls forth the spring with three greats—Mozart, Adams, and Dvořák. Join Maestro Guillermo Figueroa as he takes us through Adams’s “Foxtrot for Orchestra,” a fanciful and profound account of the 1972 visit to China by President Richard Nixon, followed by Mozart’s masterful Piano Concerto No. 20. Rounding out the afternoon of great music will be Dvořák’s magnificent Symphony No. 7, what many consider to be the pinnacle of his achievement as a composer.

Santa Fe Opera’s 2019 season offers 36 performances of five different operas: the world premiere of Poul Ruders’ fairytale opera The Thirteenth Child; Leoŝ Janáček’s intense drama Jenůfa; new productions of Mozart’s romantic comedy Così Fan Tutte; Puccini’s beloved classic La Bohème; and the revival of Santa Fe Opera’s popular 2012 production of Bizet’s Les Pêcheurs de Perles (The Pearl Fishers).

New Mexico achieved statehood just two short years before the Great War broke out in Europe in 1914. Recruitment in the nascent state was aggressive, and New Mexicans stepped up to serve in large numbers. The global conflict ended with the signing of the armistice Nov. 11, 1918.

A founder of the International Folk Art Market and former owner of the famous Clay Angel shop in Santa Fe, Judith Espinar has collected some of the world’s best folk art. Comprising primarily ceramic traditions from Mexico, Spain, France, Hungary, and Morocco, the collection also includes rich holdings of New Mexico santos, Latin American retablos and metalwork, furniture and textiles from around the world. The exhibition brings together the various voices of international cultures and living traditions, through the vision of one collector.
