Visiting Santa Fe

2015 July, Zia Regional Rodeo Returns to Santa Fe on August 15 & 16

July 16, 2015: The New Mexico Gay Rodeo Association (NMGRA) announces the family-friendly “Zia Regional Rodeo” will be held on Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16, 2015 at the “Rodeo de Santa Fe” Rodeo Grounds. Mayor of Santa Fe Javier Gonzales will be the 2015 Grand Marshall and retired Santa Fe Fire department Battalion Chief Katie Cassidy will be the 2015 Community Hero.

The Zia Rodeo competition is one stop along the way of a season-long series of rodeo competitions across the U.S. and Canada. The top 20 cowboys and cowgirls in each of the 13 rodeo events will qualify for the World Gay Rodeo Finals this October in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The action happens each day between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. for a daily $15.00 entry fee. Children under 12 enter free with adult admission. A weekend pass for both days is $25. Tickets are available at under the Rodeo header.

Rodeo events include animal-friendly calf and team roping, horse barrel racing, and pole bending, and the rough stock events bull riding and steer riding. There are three special “camp” events including the Wild Drag Race where a team of three try to get a fully costumed “drag” queen mounted on the back of a bucking steer.

Food, drink, light alcohol, and western retail vendors will be available. Excellent room rates at host hotel The Courtyard By Marriott on Cerrillos Road in Santa Fe add to the weekend fun and value.

NMGRA will hold a huge country western dance on Saturday night at the Courtyard By Marriott on August 15, 2015 at 8:00 p.m. A significant portion of the Net Proceeds support New Mexico Charities. Additional information including how to attend, participate and volunteer is available on
