Visiting Santa Fe

Hiking

Santa Fe is a hiker's paradise. And you don't have to travel far to find it. Just a few minutes away from bustling downtown lie acres of pristine wilderness in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Here you'll find miles of excellent trails to explore that range from easy to challenging.

Leave the human world behind as you pass through shaded forests of pinon, juniper and ponderosa trees. Stop to admire meadows filled with Indian paintbrush, purple lupine and other colorful wildflowers. Relax by a silvery mountain stream and maybe you'll see a hummingbird, a mule deer or a gray fox. Make sure to leave yourself time to enjoy the incredible views from ridgetops and mountain summits. And don't forget to bring plenty of water and sunscreen.

Trails for all types of hikers are located in and around the city. View the interactive Santa Fe County Trails Map and download a RTD Mountain Trail Route Map. Or check out a Google map of trails leading up to the summit of Santa Fe Baldy, Northern New Mexico's highest peak.
