October always brings an opportunity to take a deep breath and appreciate the wonders of the fall season. Here in Santa Fe, we are grateful for the beauty of the mountains and the many diverse cultural and outdoor experiences that are available. So join me in discovering a few of Santa Fe’s best October events.
Immerse Yourself In A Harvest Festival
The smell of roasting chile and autumn in the October air sets the perfect scene to celebrate the harvest season. One way to celebrate is by attending the Harvest Festival —one of the most popular celebrations at Rancho de las Golondrinas and recently voted one of the Best Fall Harvest Festivals in the nation by readers of USA Today!
Bring in the harvest with villagers as they crush grapes for wine by foot. If you have never strung a chile ristra, this would be a wonderful time to learn. Also, try your hand at making tortillas and baking bread. The harvest event takes place on Saturday and Sunday, October 1 and 2, from 10 am to 4 pm.
Enjoy Spectacular Fall Foliage From Your Chair Lift Seat
In the fall, Santa Fean’s and visitors gladly welcome the aspen’s changing colors and this is one experience not to miss. During the first week in October, Ski Santa Fe will run their Super Chief Quad chair from 10 am to 3 pm.
The Santa Fe Ski Basin will also play host to fall music and activities such as the corn hole challenge and a kid’s treasure hunt. New this year, Ski Santa Fe has opened their 18 hole disc golf course for all to enjoy. Don’t miss the opportunity to also enjoy live, local music on the La Casa Lodge deck. See the event calendar for more details.
Historic Canyon Road Paint and Sculpt Out
The Annual Canyon Road Paint and Sculpt Out continues a tradition of painting “en plein air” that began a century ago when artists first arrived with early settlers. The event has evolved into one of the nation’s largest annual artist demonstrations. You will see hundreds of artists and thousands of art enthusiasts come together for the daylong outdoor artist demonstration. Meet the artists on Friday evening at several gallery receptions, previews and shows. There will also be special events that will take place at many of Canyon Road’s restaurants, boutiques, galleries and shops.
The events takes place on October 14 and 15, 2016 and are free and open to the public.
