MARKETING REPORT

A Message from Executive Director
Randy Randall

Randy Randall, Executive Director

I am pleased to report that there is definite progress with regard to Short Term Rentals in Santa Fe—from getting them registered and inspected to collecting and remitting their fair share of Lodger’s and Gross Receipts Taxes. For August we received our first check from Airbnb on behalf of their host rentals that month in the amount of almost $39,000. This only represented consumed business in August that was booked after the month started. Overall lodger’s tax income from Short Term Rentals more than doubled in August so it appears the efforts made to bring this sector of the tourism business into compliance was time well spent.

We are also excited to have our contract in place with an internet monitoring company to identify any rentals that are not licensed and take a more aggressive stand with those who ignore the rules. The new ordinance provides for significant penalties for non-licensed short term rentals and we fully intend to pursue full enforcement.

I want to thank the individual owners and management companies dealing with short term rentals who have been in compliance since the beginning. With the added revenues, we will now be able to justify marketing increases in our next fiscal year and work to attract more business to this tourism segment.

TOURISM SANTA FE PUBLIC RELATIONS UPDATE

A most strong harvest in October. The city won 3rd Best Small City In America from Conde Nast Readers’ Choice, the Super Bowl of Travel Awards. Santa Fe had the #5 Highest Score In The World and the #3 Highest In The Western Hemisphere—our all-time finest overall results.

The New Mexico chapter of the Public Relations Society of American recognized TOURISM Santa Fe with a Gold Cumbre Award for Best Campaign for our work on the launch of The Santa Fe Margarita Trail, and a Silver Cumbre Award for Best Tactic--Feature Stories for our focus on LGBT media placements.

We also hosted an ambitious and aggressive familiarization tour for an onsite evaluator representing an international award that we applied for last summer.

The city hosted international writers from top outlets in England and Ireland, Conde Nast Traveler U.K. and Irish Daily Mail, as well as an outstanding group of six journalists on a highly well-received Only In Santa Fe Press Tour.

Santa Fe earned the equivalent of $5,249,111 Million in cash via over 100 assisted media clips—over three per day—the highest monthly earned total ever and a 211 percent increase over a hardy October ‘15. You can read high quality coverage from Condé Nast Traveler, The Chicago Tribune, Boston Globe, Toronto Star, Hemispheres, SHAPE, Thrillist, USA Today (x4), Huffington Post, and more.

The community reaps these healthy crops from planting the seeds of Say Yes To Press all year. Please enjoy these successes and promote them, including your favorites from the links below, but please also work to double down and further capitalize on the momentum you’ve created.
