Visiting Santa Fe

2017 August, What's New in Santa Fe, New Mexico

August 3, 2017— At 400 years old, Santa Fe is a historic city that continues to evolve. Outlined below is an assortment of developments from hotels and restaurants in the City Different:

New Chef: Sunrise Springs Spa Resort
The recently renovated Blue Heron Restaurant, located at the acclaimed Sunrise Springs Spa Resort, found their full-time executive chef with Santa Fe-resident Rocky Durham. Durham was previously the executive chef and co-founder of the Santa Fe Culinary Academy, an accredited cooking school that recently closed its doors. Supporting the ideals of the wellness resort, Durham works closely with local farmers to source seasonally available herbs, fruits, and vegetables to create a selection of vibrant and flavorful dishes. Lunch, dinner and Sunday Brunch are served at the historic Blue Heron Restaurant overlooking the spring-fed pond.

New Chef: La Posada De Santa Fe
La Posada de Santa Fe, a Tribute Portfolio Resort & Spa, recently appointed Jon Jerman as the new executive chef. Over the past two decades, Jerman has sharpened his award-winning skills at some of the most prestigious resorts in the country including the Mansion on Forsyth Park in Savannah, Georgia, the Harbor View Hotel in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts and the Sonnenalp Resort & Spa in Vail, Colorado. As a long-term advocate of the Farm-to-Table movement, Jerman will utilize locally sourced products including beef from a coop of small Native American ranches and produce from family-owned local farms.

New Chef: El Nido
Chef Cristian Pontiggia, formerly of Osteria d’Assisi, has joined the staff of El Nido. The Italian Steakhouse first welcomed guests last fall after it had been closed for nearly a decade. The full renovation included an almost entirely wood kitchen and a refreshed focus on open fire cooking. Pontiggia will continue the restaurant’s emphasis in presenting exceptional ingredients from local farmers to create intelligently imagined Italian meals.

New General Manager: La Fonda On the Plaza
The historic La Fonda on the Plaza announced the appointment of hospitality industry leader Rik Blyth as its General Manager. Blyth brings to La Fonda many years of domestic and international luxury resort and hotel top management experience. Most recently, he served as General Manager at the Hyatt Regency Newport Resort and Spa in Newport, Rhode Island. He has also served as General Manager for world-class resort properties across the Caribbean, including Rose Hall in Jamaica, Biras Creek in the British Virgin Islands, and Caneel Bay in the US Virgin Islands.

New Event Venue: Casa España
Located in what was originally an 18th-century fur trader's home, Casa España provides upscale nightlife in the downtown Santa Fe area with custom entertainment and beverage options in a beautiful, eight- room environment that is furnished in the manner of a private, upscale Santa Fe home with custom artwork and bold colors. Interior designer Adriana Long partnered with legendary art and antiques dealer, Holler & Sanders on the project. Casa España is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 6:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. as a nightclub exclusively for guests of the Santa Fe and Taos properties within the Heritage Hotels & Resorts portfolio. Private club memberships are also available, and the facility is available to rent Sunday to Thursdays for corporate and social events, wedding receptions and fundraisers of 50 to 300 guests.

New Accolade: Sazón
Santa Fe’s popular Mexican eatery Sazón has earned the highly-coveted Four Diamond Rating from the Automobile Association of America (AAA). Just two percent of the more than 31,000 restaurants approved by AAA achieve this prestigious distinction. This news comes as a delight to the restaurant known for using sophisticated flavors, blending Old Mexico’s indigenous and culinary traditions alongside ingredients from around the world.
