Visiting Santa Fe

2016 June, Treasure Hunters Flock to Santa Fe for Fennboree

June 2, 2016: In celebration of the ongoing search for author Forrest Fenn’s hidden treasure, enthusiasts from across the country will gather at Hyde State Memorial Park from June 3-5 for “Fennboree,” a fun-filled camping weekend for families to share ideas and swap stories regarding the whereabouts of the elusive, gold and jewel-filled chest. Fenn gained notoriety in 2010 when he stated in his memoir that he had hid nearly $2 million dollars in rare and unique valuables.

While a wide variety of family-friendly activities including games, mini-treasure hunts, campfire stories and pot luck meals are scheduled, this year’s celebration also features the premiere of Matt Maisano’s documentary “Fenn’s Searchers,” a recently completed film depicting the story of the infamous treasure hunt.

Forrest Fenn himself is scheduled to attend the campfire in a rare public appearance. “I’m looking forward to meeting many friends who I have known only through email exchanges” said Fenn. “The campfire get-togethers and pot luck lunch promise to be something everyone will remember for quite a while.”

Participants will pay a $5 per-car fee charged by New Mexico State Parks and are encouraged to come prepared with their favorite side dishes for pot luck meals and treasure-hunting stories for campfire sessions.

Free screenings of “Fenn’s Searchers” will take place at the Courtyard Marriott on Saturday, June 4, at 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., followed by a 1:00 p.m. pot luck lunch and 4:00 p.m. campfire story session at the Hyde Park Campground. The weekend will conclude with a 9:00 a.m. pancake breakfast on Sunday, June 5.
