Visiting Santa Fe

2015 December, A City Different New Year's Eve on the Plaza

December 9, 2015: Santa Fe invites holiday travelers near and far to the city’s first-annual public New Year’s Eve celebration on Thursday, December 31, 2015.

The City Different will celebrate its distinctive artistic diversity and heritage by welcoming the New Year on the Santa Fe Historic Plaza, the end of the Santa Fe Trail and heart of the 400 year old capital.

“Santa Fe is second to none in major cultural festivals and celebrations,” said Santa Fe Mayor Javier Gonzales. “We host them year round and now is the time for New Year’s Eve to become a part of our centuries of annual festive traditions. We look forward to ringing in a healthy and prosperous 2016 with locals and visitors alike.”

Luminarias—piñon bonfires—will encircle, light and warm up the Plaza. Local non-profits will serve hot chocolate for a suggested donation while food trucks will be parked nearby serving delicious cuisine. Local musician Alex Maryol, a homegrown guitar hero, will play on the plaza bandstand followed by legendary Northern New Mexico rockers Lumbre del Sol. At the stroke of midnight, a City Different New Year's surprise will kick off 2016 in an uplifting and family-friendly fashion as a new tradition takes hold in America's oldest capital city.

A host of Santa Fe hotels are offering special packages and the city’s fame for culinary mastery ensures an abundance of special prix fixe New Year’s Eve dinners at noted restaurants.
