Native Treasures: Indian Arts Festival
Sat, May 25 2013, 10:00 - 4:00 PM
Native Treasures: Indian Art Festival has become one of the most important Indian art shows in the U.S. since its inception in 2005. More than 200 museum-quality artists from over 40 tribes and pueblos will showcase and sell their pottery, jewelry, glass, painting, sculpture, carvings, textiles and other art, Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26 at the Santa Fe Convention Center. Sandia Shuttle and the Inn at Loretto are offering special Native Treasures discounts to people traveling to Santa Fe in support of the festival.
The show’s organizers work year-round scouting and recruiting new talent each year. New and top artists this year include 2013 Native Treasures featured artist Tammy Garcia, Robin Waynee, DY Begay, Autumn Borts-Medlock, Les Namingha, Dominique Toya, Keri Ataumbi, Ernest & Veronica Benally, Maria Samora, Roxanne Swentzell (2011 Featured Artist), Ed Archie NoiseCat, Nocona Burgess, Yellowman, Charlene Holy Bear, Mona Laughing, and Robert Tenorio.
“Robin Waynee’s work is contemporary, exquisitely crafted and inspirational to wear,” says Karen Freeman, co-chair of Native Treasures. “She has won numerous awards at Indian Market and was the first Native American to capture the Grand Prize at the 2012 Saul Bell Design Award, the ‘Oscar’ of international jewelry awards. We are thrilled to welcome Robin and all of the amazing talent we will have at the 2013 Native Treasures show. Their participation will make the show even more special for Native Treasures attendees.”
Proceeds from Native Treasures provide the primary funding for exhibits at Museum of Indian Arts & Culture (MIAC). While the museum receives N.M. state funds for operating expenses, all exhibit funding must be raised privately. Artists generously donate a portion of their sales to MIAC. May 26, 10:00 AM
