Birds Gone Wild / May 18, 2013 Not quite sure what to do with the mounds of junk....oops...I mean, treasures that have been accumulating in your studio? Have you been afraid to use that vintage tin, saving it for the perfect project?
Well dig it all up & bring it to this class, where we will create the wackiest flock of birds youve ever seen!
Add to your cold connecting, assemblage & composition skills, but most of all, learn how to let go of perfection, let loose & have a blast!
You will leave with at least 3 totally unique, one of a kind birds (the birds that you make in class can be any size, depending on the metal that you bring. Most of mine are around 8 x 5).

Dawn Bacon-Richards
As owner of Bacon-Richards, Dawn designs and consults on both large and small-scale projects, incorporating her years of fashion industry experience. She creates industrial design packages that are factory ready for other design houses, and also creates artistic custom designs for her collectors.
Originally from New Mexico, Dawn received a BFA in fashion design from the University of North Texas. While in school, Dawn worked designing accessories, which were sold to boutiques throughout the Texas and the Southwest. After graduating, she designed womens apparel for Alexander Campbell, a company in Dallas known for its unique prints. Dawn supervised the development and production of the sample line, overseeing a team of design assistants and sample makers. Her designs were carried nationwide, including Coldwater Creek Catalog and were seen in Cowboys & Indians magazine.
Bacon-Richards said her adult classes focus on "traditional old-school methods" that combine pattern-making and draping. "It's a much more intuitive way to design," she said. "People really need to be able to use their intuition to design, and part of the battle is learning how to trust that." full story at http://www.santafenewmexican.com/

Geraint, Susan and I wanted to thank you for the wonderful day we were able to spend with you last Wednesday. Thanks for so many things - for showing us how to use our camera features more efficiently, for new ways of "seeing" a subject, balance and composition - we could go on and on! We have lived in NM most of our lives but had never seen many of the places you took us. The weather was stunning - thunder clouds, rainbows, mountain villages. It was a day that we were trulyfilled with wonder at all we saw! You were so very patient with us as we would try to grasp concepts that come naturally to you. And I know that you went "beyond the call of duty" as evening and night fell, trying to get an uncooperative Photoshop program to stay in raw mode. Please thank your daughter for us for keeping you so late! And finally, it was a pleasure to get to know you as a person, not just a photographer. Thank you for sharing a day with us.Mark and Susan, Maine

Intensive: Black-and-White Photography Using Photoshop with Rick Allred /May 25 - May 27, 2013 Black-and-white photography is an ideal and timeless vehicle for enhancing the beauty of almost any subject matter. It highlights composition, intensifies texture, and evokes the visual essence of the subject. For the modern photographer who wants to elevate their level of expertise in this classic medium, theres no better or more accessible tool than Adobe Photoshop.
Join Rick for two-and-a-half days focused on the Photoshop featuresboth introductory and intermediatethat allow you to significantly improve your black-and-white imagery and effectively transform your color images into black-and-white. Using a basic conversion to move from color to black and white can result in photographs that are visually bland. To combat this, we learn how to analyze and utilize the color information present in our image files. We also explore and work with the Photoshop tools and layering techniques that aid us in bolstering compositional strengths while toning down areas of distraction, to more elegantly guide viewers eyes through our images.
With patience and an infectiously enthusiastic approach, Rick leads participants through a series of hands-on demonstrations, practical lab exercises, and detailed explanations of specialized techniques. Take time out to give your skills a jump-start in the artistically rewarding field of digital black-and-white photography.
