Uncle Jesse Broadcasts Live From The Opening Night Of The 2013 Rodeo De Santa Fe

Enjoy the 64th Annual Rodeo de Santa Fe, held June 19-22, 2013 at the historical Rodeo Grounds on Rodeo Road in Santa Fe. Rain or shine you'll be entertained with our rodeo clowns, the Cheyenne Dandees and of course, the professional cowboys competing in each event. Get ready for the 64th Rodeo de Santa Fe coming to town June 19th through the 22nd! Saddle up for all the heart-pounding, mud-slinging, action-packed performances of a top PRCA rodeo with a hometown feel. The Rodeo de Santa Fe began in 1949 when Roy Butler, Austin “Slim” Green, Gene Petchesky, Paul Ragle, Paul Rutledge and few others had a dream and determination to organize a professional rodeo in Santa Fe, NM. This dream exceeded their ambitious expectations and today remains one of the top 60 PRCA Rodeos in the nation. Last year’s Rodeo de Santa Fe drew over 540 contestants, including World Champion cowboys Taos Muncy, Trevor Brazile and JW Harris – a roster we can expect to see grow this year.
Rodeo de Santa Fe is fun for the entire family, with many events for the little ones! The Mutton Bustin’ and youth barrel racers continue to be a crowd favorite of young and old alike! Not to mention the carnival midway, concessions, vendors and a beer garden.
In true rodeo fashion, the 64th Rodeo de Santa Fe will kick off with its annual parade in beautiful downtown Santa Fe on June 15th. Be sure to grab the kids and some lawn chairs and join the local community for a fun and exciting morning. Please visit the “Parade” tab for more information.
Each night the gates open at 5pm for dinner and shopping with our vendors. 6:30 starts the much-loved Mutton Bustin' event for our local children participants. At 7pm the Grand Entry parades into the arena. Exciting Bull Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding, Team Roping, Barrel Racing, Steer Wrestling, Tie-Down Roping and Bareback Riding can be seen at every performance.

Music on the Hill™ 2013

The Music on the Hill™ concert series, sponsored by St. John’s College, is a popular signature Santa Fe summer event. Our eighth season begins on June 12, 2013 and continues on Wednesday evenings on the college’s athletic field from 6 to 8 p.m. through July 24. Our 2013 performers are Faith Amour (June 12), Joan Kessler and the Santa Fe Great Big Jazz Band (June 19), Straight Up, with J Q Whitcomb and Brian Wingard (June 26), Vinnie and Janice Zummo (July 10), the John Proulx Quartet (July 17), and Nosotros (July 24). Parking and Shuttle Information If not taking the free shuttle, concertgoers are advised to carpool whenever possible, as limited parking is available on a first come, first served basis. The following locations are available to Music on the Hill concertgoers: Udall and main Museum Hill lots (the latternot available on July 11), Santa Fe Prep main lot, I.H.M Retreat and Conference Center front lot accessed from Camino Cruz Blanca, and Rio Grande School. There is no parking at the Carmelite Monastery and or Atalaya Elementary School. Adrop-off-only location near the entrance to the athletic field on Camino Cruz Blanca has been designated.There is no Music on the Hill™ parking on Camino Cruz Blanca, Camino San Acacio, Calle Rumolo, Camino Cabra, or Camino Picacho. Additional Information For safety reasons, no pets are allowed on the field, bicycles must be parked along the tennis court fence, and children need to be monitored by their parents. In case of inclement weather requiring cancellation of a concert, the St. John’s College switchboard will have updated information. June 12 - Faith Amour (Listen to an mp3 of "Agua de Beber") Nominated for four New Mexico Music Awards in 2013, Santa Fe-based vocalist Faith Amour blends traditional jazz with the vibrant rhythms of her South American/Caribbean heritage and songs from around the world. With a sound evolving from her early training in the classical world, Faith Amour has done studio work and also composed and performed with industry innovators across North America. The band includes John Rangel, piano, Justin Bransford, bass, John Trentacosta, drums, and Fred Simpson, percussion. June 19 - Santa Fe Great Big Jazz Band (Listen to an mp3 of "My Romance") Founded some twenty years ago to keep alive the tradition of jazz composed for large ensembles, the Santa Fe Great Big Jazz Band performs the classics of Count Basie, Woody Herman, Glenn Miller, Stan Kenton, Buddy Rich, and others as well as newer charts by fine contemporary composers and arrangers such as Quincy Jones, Tom Kubis, and Gordon Goodwin. Local jazz singer Joan Kessler lends her magic to the big sound. June 26 - Straight Up, with J Q Whitcomb and Brian Wingard (Listen to an mp3 of "Airport") Headlining this date are jazz trumpeter J Q Whitcomb, whose sound evokes adventures and romances, and saxophonist Brian Wingard, who Bobby Shew credits with having “great chops, ideas, and such positive energy.” They are backed up by Chris Ishee on piano, Colin Deuble on bass, and John Trentacosta on drums. July 10 - Janice and Vinnie Zummo, Jazz Vocalist and Guitar Virtuoso (Listen to an mp3 of "Dream") Jazz guitarist Vinnie Zummo, best known for his work with Joe Jackson in the 1980s, is joined by his wife, vocalist Janice Zummo, for an evening of surprising re-workings of American songbook standards. Drummer John Trentacosta and bassist Michael Olivola provide the backdrop for the compelling combination of Janice’s sultry vocals and Vinnie’s smooth guitar playing, augmented by accordion and harmonica. July 17 - The John Proulx Quartet (Listen to an mp3 of "It's All Right With Me") Jazz pianist, composer, and vocalist John Proulx headlines an evening of music that pays homage to Rat Pack crooners Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. A denizen of Los Angeles, Proulx studied at Roosevelt University’s Chicago School of Performing Arts. With a voice that recalls the smooth, mellow sounds of a young Chet Baker, Proulx is joined by the drummer Cal Haines, guitarist Michael Anthony, and bassist Jon Gagan. July 24 - Nosotros (Listen to an mp3 of "Entrada") Seamlessly combining Latin rhythms with the elements of flamenco, jazz, salsa, and rock, the hugely popular Nosotros, originally based in Las Cruces, has made the Albuquerque/Santa Fe area home since 2001. This Latin music powerhouse features Manuel Ramirez-Ruiz, saxophone; Randy Sanchez, guitar and Cuban tres; Shane Derk, guitar and guitar synthesizer; Dennis Jasso, drums; Felipe Ruibal, vocals; Carlos Fontana, vocals; Gil Uribe, bass, "Chachi" Romero, congas; and Dave Weeks, trumpet.
Due to the overwhelming popularity of Music on the Hill™ , St. John’s College encourages concertgoers to take advantage of the fast, convenient, and free shuttle that runs every 15 minutes from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. between Museum Hill and the athletic field on each Wednesday of the concert series. St. John’s College thanks the City of Santa Fe and Santa Fe Rapid Transit for generously providing this service.
Food may be purchased from Walter Burke Catering; beverages may be purchased from Sprouts. Concertgoers may picnic on the field. No seating is available.

Eliza Gilkyson: Americana. Eliza has appeared on NPR, Austin City Limits, Mountain Stage and Etown; toured with Richard Thompson, Patty Griffin and Mary Chapin Carpenter. She has been inducted into the Austin Music Hall of Fame alongside legends Willie Nelson, Townes Van Zandt, and Nanci Griffith. Eliza’s 4th Bandstand appearance!!! There’s a reason we keep bringing her back.

Sorela: Hispanic Pop. Sisters’ D’ette and D’anna have been singing and entertaining for most of their lives. They were selected as one of the top 15 New Mexico artists by the Latin Music Academy of New Mexico in 2010 and 2011. In 2008, they appeared on Garrison Keillor’s nationwide broadcast of “A Prairie Home Companion.”
Sol Fire: Hispanic Rock. “Fronted by brothers Buddy and Amado Abeyta, you could call this a second-generation Santa Fe band since the Abeytas' dad, Chris Abeyta, is a founder of the longtime local favorite Lumbre del Sol. Sol Fire has a modern-rock sound, however, it has a more distinctive Chicano-rock sound. You can hear a little Carlos Santana in some of the guitar solos.” –Steve Terrell, Santa Fe New Mexican

Todd & The Fox: Indie. Dusty, dance-oriented music, written by Todd Lovato on five-string banjo, and featuring the drumming of talented multi-instrumentalist Erik Sawyer. In the tradition of rustic American folk and blues, Todd and the Fox takes a minimalist approach to performance: banjo, drums, bass foot pedals and voice. An “electro-roots” hybrid between modern acts like The Black Keys and The White Stripes. 2013 New Mexico Music Awards nominee for “Best Album of the Year.”
John Courage & The Great Plains: Indie. Their “Don't Fail Me Now" release received an honorable mention in SantaFe.com’s “Best Santa Fe Albums of 2012.” The songs on the album are reminiscent of something similar to Jakob Dylan and the Wallflowers while maintaining their own vibe with original songs and music. Their upcoming album, GEMS, is due to be released in June of 2013. Just in time!
