Wordharvest Writers workshops offers intensive one-day writing workshops with faculty who are published authors. The programs, limited to 15 participants, have focused on all aspects of writing. The summer 2008 series includes writing and publishing works for children, screen plays, fiction, non-fiction and travel writing. The workshops usually include hands-on writing, and welcome beginners as well as seasoned writers. Most faculty come from the Santa Fe area. We offer a summer series and usually a spring series. In addition, Wordharvest presented the Tony Hillerman Writers Conference: Focus on Mystery that includes two writing contests. The Hillerman Prize, originated in 2006, honors a first mystery set in the Southwest, and is co-sponsored by St. Martin’s Press. The Tony Hillerman Mystery Short Story Contest, co-sponsored by Cowboys & Indians magazine, offers $1500 and publication.
WORDHARVEST was established in 2001 by two energetic Santa Fe women, Anne Hillerman and Jean Schaumberg. A native Santa Fean, Jean Schaumberg has a life- long interest in books. Her career includes work as an acquisition and reference librarian, a bookstore owner and manager, and a writers’ conference coordinator, and work in development for a Santa Fe nonprofit. WORDHARVEST springs from her continued interest in the written word and the desire to promote it by assisting budding authors.
Anne Hillerman is a journalist, author, writing coach, freelance writer and avid reader. After a 25-year career in newspapers, including work as an editorial page editor, Anne and Jean launched WORDHARVEST in 2001. Anne is the author of published four books including The Insiders’ Guide to Santa Fe and Children’s Guide to Santa Fe. Forthcoming books include a restaurant guide to Santa Fe, a gardening guide to the City Different, and a collaboration with her dad Tony Hillerman that highlights the landscapes in his mystery novels. Among her interests are memoir writing and personal stories.
