BIENVENIDO BERT’S LA TAQUERIA
Welcome to Bert’s Santa Fe La Taqueria & Restaurant

Our building sits on the famous Camino Real, “The Royal Highway”. The building formally was a very popular restaurant called “La Tertulia”, owned by the Ortiz Family.
The origin of this building was part of the historic Guadalupe Mission Church Complex; home of the Dominican Nuns. In the early 1900’s the entrance used to be through Agua Fria, across from this door entrance were now is a bathroom was the Sacristy. The last room before the patio was the chapel of the convent, next to that room you see the remains of a wall mural originally painted by the students of the elementary school ( now days Nussbaumer Gallery), operated by the Dominican sisters this mural was later repainted by one of the sisters. The lobby was originally used as the laundry room. The last room with high ceilings & stout vigas (beams) was a later addition to the building.
During previous periods distinguished Santa Fe families resided in this splendid dwelling. Their names are representative of the early days of this city.
Across the street is “El Santuario de Guadalupe” one of the oldest sanctuaries in U.S

Our Cuisine

Chef Fernando Olea originally from Mexico City, has been a major promoter of Mexican Cuisine in Santa Fe for the last 18 years; he will indulge you into the Mexican flavors specially Moles.
There is nothing that evokes the mystery of ancient Mexican cuisine more than “Mole“, the national dish of excellence in Mexico. Chef Olea passionately reimagined classical techniques and a myriad of twists, twirls & tweaks, sensuous herbs, bright, picante chiles. He captured the essence of the ancient Aztecs & blended with the, sophisticated and avant-garde, creating well balance flavors, aromas & colors, for you to enjoy.

Chef/owner David Huertas takes a special pride in the food that he serves, constantly in the kitchen, his tapas are not only delicious and gratifying, but steeped in the simple flavors of his native country.

The paella is classic and legendary: served straight from the flame to your table in black iron pans where the saffron infused rice is perfectly cooked and heaped with chicken, chorizo, seafood and more.

The house-made sangria is from a generations old recipe with a splash of brandy and dessert cannot be passed over -- one taste of the heavenly flan or arroz con leche and you are in David's grandmother's kitchen.
