For decades Santa Fe has been the destination wedding location of choice for couples from around the world. Few days are charged with higher expectations and with so much planning and emotion in every single detail, Santa Fe's relaxed pace, romantic charm, and large group of knowledgeable wedding experts put even the most frazzled bridal party at ease.
There are wedding planners-every bride's best friend-who have been in town making dreams happen and sweating the little things for more than 20 years. There are equally experienced photographers, florists, cake decorators, officiates, musicians, and caterers to fulfill the most elaborate or simple of plans and ensure success. Plus there is Santa Fe itself, a welcoming town of friendly folks that loves to throw a party.
When it comes to choosing a perfect wedding location, Santa Fe's history, culture, and beautiful setting inspire in many different ways. From traditional services in historic churches to personalized ceremonies in scenic mountain meadows to elegant affairs in stylish art galleries or sophisticated events at lavish hotels, there is a meaningful Santa Fe setting for most every couple. In addition, as a town that plays host to hundreds of destination weddings each year and specializes in hospitality, Santa Fe knows how to pamper its guests.
Environmentally friendly weddings are a growing trend with an emphasis on alternative transportation, more locally grown foods, and green event locations. "There is increased awareness," said David Stone, Director of Catering and Convention Services at La Posada de Santa Fe Resort and Spa. "Many environmentally conscious couples are asking about making their wedding low impact."
Outdoor weddings are also popular in Santa Fe owing to the area's typically temperate climate and stunning landscapes. "Most of our location requests are for outdoor settings with mountain views during sunset," said the owner of Fairytale Weddings, Clarice Coffey.
Finally, when it's all over, Santa Fe is the perfect place for a honeymoon and a few well-deserved days off for friends and family. Spend some time at a spa, take a hike in the mountains, shop for a perfect memory, and savor the local cuisine; it's all part of an enchanted wedding in Santa Fe.
Just remember the marriage license, available at the County Clerk's office in historic downtown, 102 Grant Avenue. The bride and groom must apply in person-office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM-and present proof of ID and social security numbers, plus pay the $25 fee in cash. No waiting period or blood tests are necessary and licenses are available to non-New Mexico residents. (505) 986-6280.
