Green Energy New Mexico sells BEF Carbon Offsets provided by Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF), a national non-profit organization selling carbon offsets as renewable energy certificates. Renewable energy certificates replace traditional polluting sources of electricity with clean, secure, and sustainable renewable sources of energy that come from solar and wind power generated across North America.
To determine the number of BEF Carbon Offsets needed to offset the carbon emissions for a trip, use the online BEF carbon calculator. The calculator will ask for auto or air travel, how many people are traveling, how many miles will be traveled, and then determine the number of BEF Carbon Offsets needed to make the trip carbon neutral.
Each BEF Carbon Offset represents the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions that occurs when clean renewable energy replaces polluting energy sources. One BEF Carbon Offset represents enough renewable energy to offset a typical home for a month and is equal to 1,000 kilowatt-hours of renewable energy fed to North America's power grids-and is equal to offsetting the emissions from a standard car driven 1,500 miles.
