The city of Santa Fe, New Mexico will commemorate its 400th Anniversary starting in the summer of 2007, continuing through 2008 and 2009, and culminate with a final season full of events in the summer of 2010. As part of the fun honoring the amazing story of America's oldest capital city. the 400th Anniversary Committee is searching for the perfect event logo. Rather than design a logo, the committee decided to ask the world to submit ideas for an iconic symbol that captures four centuries of history in this most intriguing place.

The creator of the winning design will be recognized in Santa Fe and have their logo used in all of the city's anniversary promotions. In addition, a $2,000 prize will be awarded to the winner.

Telling Santa Fe's long and diverse story in one small image is a challenge. Before Santa Fe was named, Native Americans made this peaceful spot along a river next to the mountains their home. Santa Fe then became a crossroads after the city's founding by the Spanish in 1610. More recently, Santa Fe has become known as one of the country's most historically interesting cities, a center for Native American, Hispanic, and western culture, the second largest art market in the U.S., and a city of fine food, extraordinary entertainment, and natural beauty.

The 400th Anniversary commemoration will celebrate all these diverse elements, honor the city's founding, and be a festival of Santa Fe life, lore, and legacy. And we want a very special logo out in front of it all.

The entries will be judged by the Santa Fe 400tth Anniversary Committee.
The Judges decision will be final. Entries must be received before September 15, 2007.

The Logo will consist of the words:
"Santa Fe 400" in large type and "The Oldest Capital in the United States" in smaller sub-head.

Logo should be basically square, round, or oval and not too wide or high so that it can be reproduced in various sizes on many items. Type should be large and readable enough to be easily legible when quite small, e.g. 1" square.

Logo should convey something of the spirit and ambiance of Santa Fe. It should represent Santa Fe and be quickly recognizable as an icon of Santa Fe without having to read the wording.

Logo must be submitted on one 8 ½" X 11" sheet or panel. An additional sheet of the same size may be submitted with a description/rationale for the design. Entries will become the property of the Santa Fe 400th Anniversary Committee and will not be returned.

The winning entry will become the exclusive property of The City of Santa Fe. The Anniversary Committee reserves the right to make alterations to the final selection.

The winning design will be awarded a $2,000 prize. The designer will be honored in Santa Fe when the winning logo is announced.
