Santa Fe at the Oscars

Santa Fe is going to the Oscars.

Of the 14 Oscar nominations received by four movies made in New Mexico, 10 came from two movies made in and around Santa Fe. No Country for Old Men impressed the Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences the most, receiving eight nominations: Best Picture, Best Director (Ethan and Joel Coen), Best Supporting Actor (Javier Bardem), Best Adapted Screenplay (the film is based on a novel by Santa Fe author Cormac McCarthy), Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Sound Mixing and Best Sound Editing.

Not to be overlooked, 3:10 to Yuma was nominated for Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing. Both films were shot using Santa Fe locations and highly talented New Mexico production crews, and feature northern New Mexico's distinctive look.

In addition, two other New Mexico-based films are up for awards; Tommy Lee Jones earned a Best Actor nomination for his work on In the Valley of Elah, and Transformers picked up nominations for visual effects, sound editing and sound mixing.

See how it turns out on February 24th.
