Santa Fe is one of 30 popular American cities ranked in Travel + Leisure's 2009 America's Favorite Cities poll, the results of which were revealed today online. Santa Fe came out as the number one city for Peace & Quiet and placed well in many of the other 55+ categories in the annual online survey including:
#5 for a romantic escape
#2 for a relaxing retreat
#3 for a cultural getaway
#8 for an active/adventure vacation
#7 for stylish boutique hotels
#3 for B&B 's/Inns
#6 for all-in-one resorts
#6 for museums/galleries
#7 for historical sites/monuments
#2 for independent boutiques
#4 for antique and vintage shops
#9 for ethnic food
#5 for cleanliness
#5 for safety
#4 for weather
#3 for environmental friendliness
#9 for winter/Christmas travel

On the other side, the city ranked last for Big-name Luxury Hotels and Nightlife.

"Santa Fe was the smallest city, by far, in the poll but our history, charm, and authentic nature set us apart." said Santa Fe Convention & Visitors Bureau Executive Director Jim Bradbury. "The city continues to be known as one of the country's top travel spots as seen in its ratings for peace and quiet, romance, relaxation, and as a cultural destination."

Of Santa Fe, the magazine's web site says, "...despite its vibrant population of skiers and hikers, painters and photographers, alternative healers, hippies, gays and lesbians, and émigrés from seemingly every one of the other 49 states, this city remains strongly connected to its Spanish-Native American heritage-and to the pristine landscape that surrounds it."

Cities included in the poll were: Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Charleston, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas/Fort Worth, Denver, Honolulu, Houston, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix/Scottsdale, Portland, OR, Providence, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Fe, Seattle, St. Louis, and Washington D.C.

All the results will be published in the magazine's November issue and can be seen on its web site, www.travelandleisure.com. Santa Fe's rankings can be found at www.travelandleisure.com/afc/2009/city/santa-fe.
