Air conditioning is seldom necessary in Santa Fe (although this townhouse does include it). Nestled between the Sangre de Cristo Mountains (east) and the Jemez Mountains (west), winters are usually mild although nights are often below freezing. The low humidity and clear blue skies free from smog produces one of the most healthful environments in the US. Sun shines 300 days/yr.
As an Easterner, this climate is super, as the aridness produces much sunshine, and little humidity, which, at both hot and cold temperatures, makes one feel great!

Wordharvest Writers workshops offers intensive one-day writing workshops with faculty who are published authors. The programs, held at La Tienda (Eldorado) focus on all aspects of writing. The summer 2012 series includes writing and publishing fiction, non-fiction, memoir and travel writing. The workshops include hands-on writing, and welcome beginners as well as seasoned writers. Most faculty come from the Santa Fe area. We offer a summer series and usually a spring series. In addition, Wordharvest presents the Tony Hillerman Writers Conference, scheduled Nov. 8-10, 2012 at the Hotel Santa Fe. The event includes two writing contests. The Hillerman Prize, originated in 2006, honors a first mystery set in the Southwest, and is co-sponsored by St. Martin's Press. The Tony Hillerman Mystery Short Story Contest is co-sponsored by New Mexico Magazine.
WORDHARVEST was established in 2001 by two energetic Santa Fe women, Anne Hillerman and Jean Schaumberg. A native Santa Fean, Jean Schaumberg has a life- long interest in books. Her career includes work as an acquisition and reference librarian, a bookstore owner and manager, and a writers' conference coordinator, and work in development for a Santa Fe nonprofit. WORDHARVEST springs from her continued interest in the written word and the desire to promote it by assisting budding authors.
Anne Hillerman is a journalist, author, writing coach, freelance writer and avid reader. After a 25-year career in newspapers, including work as an editorial page editor, Anne and Jean launched WORDHARVEST in 2001. Anne is the author of several published books including Gardens of Santa Fe, Tony Hillerman's Landscape, Santa Fe Flavors, The Insiders' Guide to Santa Fe and Children's Guide to Santa Fe.
Visiting Santa Fe > Things to Do > Golf Courses
Located just eight miles west of the downtown Plaza, is New Mexico's only municipal golf course, Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe.
The course, built in 1998, is a fusion of desert and links design elements, and is sited to maximize the panoramic views of the four surrounding mountain ranges including the Sangre de Cristos of the Sourthern Rockies, the Jemez, Ortiz and Sandia mountains. Designed by Baxter Spann, this championship course has five sets of tees that make the course challenging yet playable for all skill levels, perfect for beginners, but also a test from the back tees for experts.
The par 3 executive course, called "The Great 28" was named one of Travel & Leisure Golf's "Top Three Big Little Courses in the United States."
The course is bisected by two high-desert ridges, adding variety to your shots. Fairways are framed by native juniper and pinon trees, and native grasses separate the fairways. The sides of the fairways are bowled to allow errant shots to more easily find the short grass.
