American Eagle - Art Weekend, May, 2009
The daily American Eagle direct flight from Dallas to the Santa Fe Municipal Airport makes its first trip on June 11 and the timing couldn't be better for art lovers.
The prestigious Sculpture Objects and Functional Art Fairs (SOFA) of Chicago and New York opens its first annual Santa Fe edition on June 11, continuing through Sunday, June 14. SOFA events include the 4-day exposition, featuring an elite line up of 35 international dealers and the work of hundreds of artists, 3 lecture series by noted artists, curators, and collectors, plus a VIP program of exclusive private home tours, curator-led museum tours, and special events. In addition, the New Mexico Museum of Art's most recent exhibition, American Impressionism; Paintings from the Phillips Collection, premiers on June 5. More than 65 Impressionist works (ca.1880-1920) from the renowned Phillips Collection will be on display in the downtown museum through September 13, 2009. Included will be works from celebrated American artists John Henry Twatchman, J. Alden Weir, Childe Hassam, Theodore Robinson, and William Lathrop, among many others. Plus, the newly created New Mexico History Museum will have opened on May 24 with an immersive, multi-media environment exploring New Mexico's complex and colorful stories.
